Dholera international airport project shall cater to excessive traffic of Ahmedabad airport
A green signal from Airport Authority of India has been received for development of Dholera airport project, 20 kilometers from Dholera and 80 kilometers from Ahmedabad. Dholera airport’s future goal shall also be to lift the heavy traffic from Ahmedabad airport which is expected to reach its saturation levels before 2020.In addition to be a suitable replacement for Ahmedabad air traffic, the sites location is also feasible for air travelers from Nadiyad, Bhavnagar, Vadodara and Rajkot.
Ahmedabad airport reportedly has seen one of the highest growth rates in terms of air traffic and the Dholera airport project has arrived right in time to lift the excessive load. The project is one of the early bird projects within the Dholera SIR region and should be developed on fast track.
Besides supporting the Ahmedabad air traffic, need was felt to have an airport close to Dholera SIR Region and thus the Dholera Airport Project came into being. The region shall be a witness to colossal economic activities and huge inflow of funds and investments due to the great potential it offers. Owing to these factors, the need to have a world class airport in the vicinity emerged.
1700 hectares of land has been kept aside by the state government in the Taluka Dhandhuka district Ahmedabad as a site for Dholera Airport.Gujarat Industrial Corridor Company Ltd (GICC) has been formed to oversee the development work of the Dholera Airport project.
